Re: C-3 restoration

Richard, the C Series flys very well. I've never felt underpowered flying my C-2. But, I do have the big E-113 37 HP Engine. Glad to hear that Ron is working on the C-3. He got a fuel tank from me several years back. Dennis Nichols, from Tri-Cities was over to Seattle last week. I gave him a good to...

Passing of John Houser - Christmas Eve 2014

To All Members of the AERONCA Community, It is with sadness, that I report the passing of John Houser. He passed away peacefully this morning (Christmas Eve). John loved airplanes. He really loved the planes made by AERONCA. John was an Engineer with AERONCA since the '40s. His favorite Aeronca was ...

Re: Need a prewar Chief Aileron

Paul mentioned the need to measure your aileron. There are 3 variations of the early ailerons. The K ailerons are almost exactly like the ones for the Pre-War Chiefs. And then there are the Tandem "T" ailerons. The one you want is Part Number 5-11. The distance from end to end (of the body not to th...

Re: C-2N Project Up-date

Matt, thanks for the encouragement! Along with getting good at rivets, I'm also getting good at drilling out rivets!! I thought I would put a couple more pics out on the site. I hope to have the aileron done this weekend and then it's final rig check and Annual. My dream is to get this to Middletown...

Re: C-2N Project Up-date

It's been awhile since my last update. It's close, but we all know that the last 10% takes 90% of the time. It's together enought that I've got a good bit of taxi time and the engine is running perfect!!!! It was on display at Arlington last year The last piece of the puzzle is replacing some skin o...

Re: New Toy

My first plane was a '39 65C. I think you're going to be very happy with your new toy!!! I don't mean to start any wars of BS here, but the PreWars fly better than the Post Wars. They use a Clark Y airfoil. With an 85, it must be a hoot with no floats. Please let us know what kind of climb and cruis...

Re: Small Holes in Aeronca Control Wheel Emblem

David, what you have are Yoke number 3-148. They are 1 of 3 different yoke styles that were on the 65CA/65LB Chiefs, The "Name Plate - Control Wheel" is 1-845. This is the same part number that was used through the later 11 series of Chiefs. But the early parts are differnt even though the part numb...

Any One Going To The WAAAM Fly-In at Hood River, OR ?????

Is there anyone going to the fly-in at the WAAAM Museum in Hood River, Oregon next weekend? If you've never been there, you're missing out. They have over a 100 planes. All with drip pans (See the LC picture). Many of them are kept in flying status. They have more 3 cylinder powered planes than I ha...

Re: Ward Aero Generator

Jim,
What model do you have? They are all just a little different.

Most were originaly mounted above the wing butt fitting on the forward spar. But, you mostly see them now mounted between the landing gear.

Nicole,
Welcome to the our group!!!!

I'm in Renton. I don't have a Tandem, but I can certainly help with a lot of your questions. I'd love the opportunity to look over a TF project. I've got most of my toys out at Crest.

WANTED - OLEO parts for Landing Gear

I'm looking for some oleo parts for the landing gear. I'm mostly looking for the fittings, so if you have any oleos that are pitted or messed up, that would be OK. Even if the fittings have seen better days, I could use it. Of course if they are perfect, I won't turn up my nose. But, this is an oppo...
