Re: Fuselage envelope

Brink- I've used envelopes twice and won't do it again. Once on wings where holding the seam straight was a nightmare and the second on a 7AC Champ that the envelope would not pull forward over the cabin section and I had to cut the fabric on a line from the rear windows. I have bought parts from Ai...

Re: Question about cracking paint....

Paul- The Stewarts process is incredibly forgiving and easy if you forget everything you knew about covering and follow their procedure manual. I've not mastered the top coat application using Stewarts and freely admit its my fault. I have been tempted to apply the top coat with a roller to avoid th...

Re: Question about cracking paint....

Respectfully Brink, the PolyFiber techniques you describe differ so much from the procedure manual I am required to use to have a valid STC I'm not sure we are talking about the same covering system. 2 brushed coats of PolyBrush followed by 2 sprayed cross-coats of PolyBrush (thats 6 coats total) th...

Re: Stits poly fibre

Brink completely agree with letting the fabric set a day or two and then going over it again with the iron. Temperatures are sacred working with dacron and 350 is a never exceed value or you'll damage the fabric. You mentioned nitrate dope in your post Jack and I used Nitrate dope, rib stitched, and ...

Re: NEW McDowell starters and parts available!!!

Good to know Paul. I'm aware of several people who are looking at starters and can't find the engine parts. It is my understanding the engine/airplane parts differ between a Champ and a Chief. Are you able to supply either and all from the handle to the starter?

Can't argue with your success, however the last IA seminar I attended the fellow from G&N http://gnaircraft.com/ showed pictures of RTV that had separated and migrated in an engine. His words of advice is to avoid RTV in any form on anything on the engine.
