Need some help in San Diego,CA

Post by Paul Agaliotis » Wed Mar 02, 2016 11:17

Well I ended up with an Airplane in San Diego. It looks like I'll be going to pick it up with-in the next few weeks. If there are any Aeronca-vites in the area, I could use the help. My crystal ball sees a fine steak dinner in it for you if that will bribe you.

I don't have all the details yet, as I just got it yesterday. If there is any interest I'll provide the details as I get them. Thank you

I ended up with a SR-9 Gullwing Stinson. It's pretty broke but I needed some parts for a SR-6 I own.

Most of my road trips are noteworthy of song and tales. Arrests are seldom prosecuted.

I saw that one and if it had been on this side of the country I might have taken a shot at it.

Good for you! I guess this means you really are no longer interested in that PA-22 fuselage.

Well not that one. It really wasn't clear what mods had been done. Still need a PA22-108 Colt fuselage. I don't mind an overnight trip, but that was at least 5 days away.

What kind of help? You do have my e-mail? I am at MYF spot 5B1J almost every day from one to four.

Interesting - a guy from Ramona called me last week for help with an V-77. There was some kind of Stinson that made an off-airport landing in Otay, after it ran out of fuel?

I will check back tomorrow.

Bob,
That's the one.
I'm looking at going down this week-end. The plane is at Brown Field in the owners hangar, just waiting on the insurance company to release the plane to me.
I'm just worried that I wont have enough manpower to get everything loaded. I don't know what kind of service is available at the field and I want to be as prepared as I can be. I'll keep you posted.

It is at Tom Sarvis' place - called "First Flight". Tom is usually there. Let us know what time you will be there and I will see if we can get some guys to go for cheap fuel and to say Hi.

Bob,
It looks like I'll be in San Diego on Saturday and plan to pick-up the plane on Sunday morning. I don't know what equipment is available but we'll cross that bridge on Sunday. Hope to see you there.

Just an update,
Got the plane home in good shape. Took about 5 hrs to load it, man, it's BIG! Now starting to hunt some parts for it. Turns out these parts are tougher to find than bib overalls in the Bay Area. Wish me luck.

What SR-6 parts are missing?
Keep the pointed end forward--
The dirty side down.....
And the blue skies on top....

Doug,
I actually bought the plane for the engine/prop and all of the little stuff. This one is a SR9, I was hoping the parts will fit. Once I got it home and inspected it, the fuselage has minor damage on the verticle stab and rudder. The wings are deformed at the D section and will need the most work.

The parts I'm looking for are a set of landing gear, they snapped of just above the verticle tube, and some raw material for wing repairs.

I'm going to fit the SR6 gear in it if I can. It sure looks like the same gear.

The engine mount has 2 bad tubes and I might need 2 prop blades. The shop tells me that they can fix a lot of damage on the 2B20 blades. One cylinder has some bad cooling fins on it and will need a cylinder for the R680-13.

If you know anyone that can help out please give them my information. But being as connected as you are, you probably have a shed full of this stuff!
