Take a look at one of the drag wire lugs I took out of my L3B the other day:

Pretty scary. I doubt the lug on the left could take even a third of the design load. Good thing they were so over-designed to begin with. The QA inspector was definitely asleep on this one.

I don't see an inspector's stamp on the part on the left.

Also the one on the left looks wider

Perhaps someone made it for a repair?

Is that possible?

Possible, but the edges of the lug look stamped out, not sawed or filed, as if somebody had made this one. I guess this kind of thing happened in a fast production environment. But it showed me not to take anything for granted.

It also shows that original is not the only consideration in a restoration.
