Compass Mount

Post by jepropst » Sun Jul 12, 2015 11:12

The vertical card compass in my Champ has become unreliable and inaccurate. I am replacing it with a conventional SIRS navigator compass. I would like to "glue" it directly to the windshield. It comes with a 3-M VHB adhesive pad and application kit. The instructions indicate that it can be attached directly to the windshield. Before proceeding, I wanted to check and see if anyone else has any experience "gluing" a compass mount directly to a windshield. I do not want to attach it to the glare shield due to vibration and interference from electronic devices. My concern with gluing is whether or not it will stick long term. I can fabricate a bracket to attach to the airframe tubing, but I think the windshield mount would result in the least amount of airframe or electronics interference, if it works.
