Post-war Chief on EDO 1320 floats

Post by gcgilpin » Sun Jan 14, 2007 20:54

Are EDO 1320 floats approved for post war Chiefs? I haven't seen or heard of any but think they must be approved.

Does anyone know?

Edo 1320 floats approved for post war Aeronca Chief?

Edo 1320 floats are not approved for the post war 11 series Chiefs, only the Edo 1400 & PK 1500 floats are approved.

There's a guy from Florida who has 1320 rigging for a Chief on barnstormers. I called him, he said they came with his 11AC.

Wonder if they were for a pre-war airplane and were installed somewhere on a post war airplane?

1320's

He may have had a field approval or STC for the installation. I had a Champ 7CCM with an STC for 1320's. It was a little under floated but got off the water faster than 1400's. The 1320 is NOT approved on the 7CCM ONLY the 7AC

Has anyone found an STC for 1320s on a Post War Chief? I have the information on the STC for 1320s on a 7CCM and was going to actually put them on my 7CCM, but I am having so much fun with it on wheels, I do not want to take it off them. I also was told by J.J. Frey that although the 1320s will actually out perform the 1400s on the water, the 7CCM is a little under floated if the plane is going to be used with two people or is heavy to begin with. I would like to get something on these 1320s by this coming seaplane season. I used to instruct in my Chief on 1400s and am sorry that I sold it.

I still have not found an STC for the installation of EDO 60-1320s on a Post War Chief, but I do have a set of 1320s with Pre-War Chief Rigging. I am learning more as I go and it looks like the fuselage attachements are totally different for the Pre-War as compared to the post war, with the Pre-War only having a set of welded in place Eye Bolts on the fuselage for the rear attachment and the forward attachment goes directly to the wheel attach area. That is so much different than on an 11AC, that I think I would have to buy all new rigging even if I can find a STC for the Post War on 1320s.

I have lost the two Pre-War 65-CAs with C-85s that I was looking at, so if anyone knows of a Pre-Way Chief convienent to the North East I would be interested even if it only had a 65 in it.

Thanks for reading - Robert
