Champion 7JC Owner Died N610WA

Post by jnmeade » Sat Sep 20, 2014 23:00

Sheldon Kongable of Winfield, IA, owner of one of 5 7JC in the FAA data base, died in March of this year. I don't know the condition of the plane. He was older and hadn't flown in years. I have not heard of the disposition of the airplane.

Keep everyone posted. That is just too rare an airplane to lose track of.

I have been told anecdotally that the plane is still in annual and was flown in 2013, bit I do not know that of my own knowledge. If I hear anything, I'll pass it on.

I was told today, 28 Apr 16, that this plane is for sale. I was told it had been flying recently but needed work.
I'm not personally in touch with the new owner, the son of the former owner, so can't tell you how to contact him. You can try Brian Ostwinkle at Monticello Airport, Iowa, or the FAA data base. Please don't ask me, I don't know.

Any update on this plane. It would be a great addition to a new Aeronca Museum.

Paul the registration is valid until October 31 of this year (2017), which suggests it hasn't passed through probate if the owner is deceased as previously mentioned.

Richard,
This is such a unique Aeronca it would be a shame to lose track of it and have somebody put a tail wheel on it. I have a ratty old 7AC that would be a good trade.

Paul (and all interested)

As of April 23, 2017 the FAA lists N610WA owner as Sheldon V Kongable (who died March 12, 2014). He was married to Sandy (Sandra Lou Bauer who died December 5, 2015) Sheldon and Sandy were both licensed pilots and were members of the IA/MO Chapter of International Flying Farmers and Associated Pilots of Iowa. She served as Chapter Queen of the IA/MO Chapter three times and was Newsletter Editor for 22 years. She also served as IFF Region 6 Director for two years. They are survived by Scott (Jennifer) Kongable of Center Point, Iowa and Stefanie (Mark) Skroch of Surprise, Arizona. Scott Kongable has been President of Crystal Group Inc., since February 2003 (319-378-1636)

The plane is going to be at auction in late May or early Jun 17. It is not airworthy right now and will require significant restoration. I have found the owner's manual, but, cannot find the maintenance logbook.

Fraise Auction Services is the auctioneer.

If you have any questions, I will try to answer them as best I can. Dad got the plane after I graduated from college and moved so I do not have a lot of knowledge about it.

Scott,
First, I'm sorry for your loss. Fair winds west.

Thank you for responding, it would be a shame to lose the unique Aeronca to history. As the company tried to hold off the production stoppage, they made market specific aircraft. The JC was one of the strangest. I can't understand the market they were trying to supply or if a disgruntled engineer as a "parting gift" submitted this design. In either case a very limited production aircraft was delivered. I will be looking forward to this auction.

Paul,

I tried to contact you several months ago after seeing this forum, however, none of the emails/phone numberes I could find searching the internet seemed to work.

I just want someone to end up with this plane that enjoyed flying it as much as my dad did. I only flew in it twice.

Wow I am so glad you two connected (Scott and Paul). Scott I was so impressed with your parents involvement in aviation trying to find out who owned the plane now. I hope it finds a good home.
