[/img]This is N1441H as I first saw it in July of 2012. I bought it later in the month and dissassemled it for transport to a hangar for restoration.

It has the original C-145 in it still. I was told that one of the tanks was replaced with a metal one, but recent inspection showed two old Good Year Bladders. I will get to spend a lump of cash down at Burls for a set of tanks now.

Did I screw this up, because I cant see the photo either?

Dik,

Before you spend a lot of $$ for metal tanks, there is NOTHING wrong with the original Goodyear bladder tanks!

You have more useful fuel with the bladders and they work just fine. They are in the Sedan I fly and I have absolutely no thoughts about moving to metal. Why spend the $$ to replace something that works fine right now?

Not only are bladders a good shoice, the older ones are actually much better that those prodiced today. I had a bladder manufacturer explain to me (back in my Bonanza days) that the material (rubber) used in the 40s and 50s is much superior to what's available today.

I have rubber bladders in my 182 and I have had no problems with them. I think many of the new ones are made with a higher percentage of synthetic rubber and hence do not last as long as the older ones. I replaced mine in about 1998 and they are working great 14 years later even being somewhat newer.

How well do these rubber bladders tolerate mogas? Just curious as I have been looking at an older near mint condition 182 and since I live quite a distance from the nearest avgas source I like the possibilty of being able to use mogas if I need to. Currently I keep a couple 55 gallon barrels of avgas at my strip but That doesn't last long when you have a couple of planes burning it. I mostly keep it as a 'reserve'.

The mogas STC comes as two parts. One approves the use of mogas in the engine and the second approves mogas in the airframe. Go to the Peterson web site and check to see if your airframe and engine is listed. If the 182 airframe is listed as "approved", then you are good for mogas. You need to keep in mind that the STC is for gas NOT contaminated with ethanol. If you still have questions, just call Peterson. He is a good guy to talk with. Oh, and one more thing, you must buy the STC to be FAA legal.

Having said all that, I think the early 182 airframe/engine combination is approved.

One more thing just occurred to me. I was at a meeting a while back and one of the speakers was from a bladder repair shop in Memphis. He was questioned about the need to keep the bladder full with fuel at all times. When asked if auto fuel was acceptable, he said yes. He also said that if the bladder is open due to engine/airframe repairs, keep the bladder wiped down with marvel mystery oil or mineral oil.

I would stay away from using car-gas in a bladder equiped airplane. Every plane I have been around that uses it has had a fuel related issue.

Well, I got these replies a little bit late, I stopped at Burls this weekend and picked up the metal tanks . The guy I bought this plane from said it always leaked fuel. So, If anyone wants These bladders let me know. They are both already out of the plane.
