Well now that all of the planes have been looked at, do we have some results of the inspection? I would assume that all of the Sedans have some surface corrosion. Was there a large number that had moderate or severe corrosion as called out in the AD?

There are a couple in the area that were looked at and not much was found. One owner opted to replace the spar caps due to some added drill holes but that was it. The Corona Sedan was trash but it wasn't airworthy, and who knows where it has been. I looked at it and there was no doubt it was corroded. It didn't have the added holes and they weren't needed, it was just a mess.

I'm just a little curious about the findings. Out here in CA the climate is pretty good and I don't see any of the problems that the AD called out.

I haven't done mine yet, but intend to within the next month. I will be using the AMOC with the boroscope. the scope cost less than the doublers and plates, and its a simple enough process. What I have looked at so far inside the tank bays and the aileron push tube bays has not revealed any damage. This one has been in the Fairbanks Ak area since it was new, even though sitting outside, the only corrosion issues I have are on the tailfeathers and were caused by shoddy maintenance. The last person to recover those surfaces forgot to put holes inside the drains, even though he did install the drain grommets.

Paul,

I have inspected three Sedans and know of a handful of others and NOT ONE of them has had more than what could be described as "light surface corrosion" in several spots on the wings. We are talking about something that could be removed with very light rubbing with a scotchbrite pad.

Thanks for bringing this up, have wondered what really happened "out in the field" now that this AD/SB has for the most part been complied with and the real results are in. Right now am guessing that we know of less than 10 aircraft that had any real issue in this area.

I finally got all the inspection holes cut in my wings. I've only inspected a couple of bays but so far things look pretty good.

Hmm, interesting.

So far 85 people have viewed this thead and not one person who has posted has had any issues.

If this is the case then what was this AD/SB all for? If there is no problem with the Sedan wings, why are we now having to do this extensive inspection every year, and spray ACF-50 in the wings every two years? Someone have stock in inspection covers, bore-scopes or ACF-50?

inspected my wings and they are free corrosion.

Since N1331H's wings had been open and treated with ACF-50, during the restoration that was completed in 2010, I already knew I would not encounter any corrosion issues, when the AD came out. Nevertheless, I look at the work needed to create access to the wings' D-boxes as an investment into the long-term preservation of these wonderful machines. I do admit, it is an expensive one.
