Leaking fuel gage
Hi Guys
Back in January 08 there was a thread discussing the possibility of having two or three tap type tools made for use in cleaning out fuel tank gage mounting threads. Did anything come of this? I ask because, guess what, I need to borrow one of these tools. I have two 13 gall wing tanks, one of which I replaced as it was full of junk, unfortunately the gage is now producing the dreaded blue stain. I plan to pull it (the gage) clean everything and try again. I will of course pay all shipping and handling and have the tool back to the owner pronto.
Many thanks to anyone who can help.

Joe,
I had the tool made but have been derelict in getting another one made. The tool is made for the threads on the header tank. I do not know if it will work on wing tanks. Check the threads to verify that they are the same as the header tank and let me know. Boy is this going to cost you!!!!

OK Joe,
I will wait for you to contact me. You can try my email address if you wish at dclardy at mvtel dot net. Or call me at 870-269-9220.
Money! Who said anything about money!!!! I was thinking beer, lap dance, beer, more lap dances, etc. Unless of course you are talking about Euros.
All kidding aside, let me know and I will ship it to you. Where are you located?

Hi Dennis
The size tap I need is 1 7/8" (one and seven eighths inch) diameter across the top of the threads and 20 threads per inch. If the tool you have is this size I will email my home address.
Afraid my lap dancing days are over, but the memories are still very clear. The "Alaskan Bush Company" in Anchorage comes to mind, wonder if it's still prospering? Dollars/Pounds/Euros/Yen, I think they take whatever you've got! Better close before I talk myself into more trouble.
Best regards

Now I am pissed but not in the British use of the term. I have searched the hanger and my tool box three times. Checked the truck and next is a conversation with my wife. Anything which touches our dining room table disappears into a drawer thirty seconds later. It has got to be here somewhere. Damn, damn, damn!

I found it!!!!! My wife put it on a kitchen tray with a bunch of my other aviation unrelated stuff and set the tray in my hanger. God love her. Oh well, it is found. Of course, she said it was never lost. If I had put it up in the first place she would not have to come behind me. Yea, yea, yea, but she like airplanes and agrees to live on an airport and put up with my no count aviation friends.
OK Joe, you said: "The size tap I need is 1 7/8" (one and seven eighths inch) diameter across the top of the threads and 20 threads per inch."
I measured 1.85 thread to thread. That's pretty close to 1 7/8". And I counted 12 threads over 5/8". That calculates to 19.2 threads per inch. That is also close to your 20 threads per inch.
If you want to try it, let me know before my wife puts it up.
