Re: Chief brakes discs and pucks

Ed,

There's no new supplier out there for these parts. If you know the items you need you can find some new parts on the secondary market. Get a list of the items you use and you can generally find a few parts here and there.

Re: a65 exhaust stack failure

The copper are the set I like to use. The stainless shim gaskets will leak if you install them improperly.

Re: a65 exhaust stack failure

The Service Help and Hints #25 covers this.

Check with the aerospace welding shops and Univair.

Copper asbestos gaskets come in the overhaul gasket kit. Check with Fresno.

The beading should nest together, two per cylinder.

Re: a65 exhaust stack failure

They happen pretty regular. Grab the stack on preflight and wiggle it, should be no crunching noise. There is an early AD on this problem. Go to the stainless stack and you should be good, no AD on them. Stay away from Wag-Errors stuff, they break quite often. The no-blo gaskets are good but pretty ...

I believe the S/L is in reference to the gear attach fittings. The Service Letter is #6.

Re: how to start A65

Pull it through about 8 blades until you hear a sucking sound from the carburetor. Throttle to idle and prop it. If it kicks back prime it some more, if it fails to do anything it's too rich and needs to be cleared. Not a big fan of cracking the throttle, I adjust mine to start at idle RPM with the ...

One of the problems is that these are McDowell drawings and may not be covered in the Aeronca drawing lists.

Re: Wooden Prop Safety Wire Size

Danny,

Use .040 Stainless on the propeller. Most manufactures don't specify what size, but all that do call for .040 wire.

I'm sure they would be a good quality belt from other vendors. Make sure they conform to TSO-C22.

Re: No or less bounce landing gear

Randy, Sounds pretty normal for the no bounce gear. Their taxi spring is stiff and some have a Bellville washer set-up that was the "high energy" springs. You may have over greased the oleo and will see some grease shooting out the bottom. If they are noisy during taxi or landing they may ...

Re: A-75 rings

Fresno Air Parts should have the A-75 parts you need. The 40577 pistons used in the A-75 have 3 rings and a small piston pin diameter, .859. The ring set will be the same. A-75 cylinders are different than A-65 by the use of Stellite components in the valve gear. Connecting rods are different by the...
