Re: I miss reading lot of daily posts

I've always thought this was the best forum for Aeronca stuff. Buying, selling, how-to advice, anything. I wish there was more activity. I've been doing a fair amount of work on my little project, and need to get off of my derriere' and post some updates...

Re: Hydraulic disc brakes

Sure. The FAA inspector who was willing to sign these things retired in January - our great loss. It is my impression that possessing a previously approved 337 does not automatically or even often result in a subsequent approval. Checked with the owner today, and he was gushing: "Absolutely no comp...

Re: Grove no weld kit

Bob, Saw your report on the Grove installation in the Champ area. I'm drooling to get a set. When do you think Grove will make them available? Per Robbie at Osh last year - words to the effect of: "We will sell them to you now. The problem is you need a field approval, which can be problematic. If ...

Re: Chief Aircraft in Oregon

I had a similar experience years ago when they made the wiring harness for the radio stack in my RV-6. They missed a couple of pin-outs and had zero interest in making it right. They have been off of my "approved vendor list" for 14 years now.

Thankfully, I'm not one to hold a grudge. ;-)

Take some good pictures and give us a rundown when you're finished. There are a lot of people one crack removed from where you are.

Re: Cleveland DMB Replacement Wheels: List of 1500# Replacem

Shaw, I have heard that Robbie Grove is making some kind of installation kit for hydraulic brakes in the earlier cable brake installations. The AC could be used for approval to install a hydraulic system from a 7FC in the fuselage. All of this would be a major alteration. Paul I speak to them about...

Re: Experimental Champ, Chief, etc.

Kyle, I'm sure there exceptions to the rule. It could have been in a flight test mode for the modifications, who knows. Now it would not be an Aeronca, most of the time they list it as an "Anybody 65CA" as Expermental, or, Aeronca/Anybody 65CA. <snip> Paul The data plate on the pre-war Chief listed...

Re: Experimental Champ, Chief, etc.

Mike, The FAA isn't going to let you change the catagory unless it has been extensively modified. Paul Generally correct. But there are exceptions. I was at a fly-in two weeks ago and saw an "Experimental" pre-war Chief. I couldn't find a single thing about it that wasn't stock, including the 75 ye...

Re: Oshkosh

I plan to arrive on Saturday (weather and all of those other things pending). I'll be camping in the Homebuilt area.

Mostly, I intend to go to some of the workshops, look through the displays, and relax.

Osh is my mental recovery week for the year.

He still has a 7AC/7CCM project with an O-200. And a 7AC project with a C85-8 no wings. His cell: 770-894-3184. Done anything on the Champ lately? Does thinkin' about it count for much? I keep promising myself that I'll finish the right wing before Oshkosh, but here I sit in the recliner, typing on...

Business as usual. The three year old is doing well. The wife too. Most everything else, I'm barely holding my head above water.

Does Lloyd still have anything for sale?

Re: Grove no weld kit

I've talked to Grove several times about this, most recently at their booth at Oshkosh last year (2013). Their answer is like a broken record: "We're currently working on some other projects. It'll probably be a year or so before we get serious about retrofitting Champ brakes."

Re: Video

Great Video, Great Editing, Great Director too. Now to get my Ex-Wife's schedule as when she will be out of town. My daughter is all for it. My Grand Daughter was three in November. Was that a Car's Kids Seat in the plane? Not sure how I would do that in my Champ. I mounted my Drift HD today, but c...
