Sedan rivets

Burl asked me to help post his announcement on new rivets for the 15AC. "I now have the original AN design rivets that Aeronca used on the Sedan. These are all new production, with certs and anodized. All total we have about 250 lbs of rivets. The AN442 series flat-head are used on the spar and...

Bronze Trim Gear

The weak point in the 15AC trim system is the small bronze gear in the overhead trim box. It is driven by a much stronger steel gear that eventually erodes the softer metal part. You can't make a replacement unless you have the factory blueprint. Fortunately, Burl's Aircraft makes this part (4-944-1...

Sedan Mechanic Needed

I have a beautiful 15AC currently at a grass strip in southwestern Michigan. It needs an annual before I can bring it home to northern Ohio. Any Sedan experienced mechanics in the area that can help me out?

Re: Vertical tail fin extension

Just a few thoughts about vertical fins. I used to have a 7AC fuselage repairing business and had a wonderful jig that let you build either style tail. Instead of a lot of welding, you can take the easier route and bolt on a modification. Whatever method you use, be sure you are ending up with an ac...

7AC Fuselage Fixture

Everyone in aviation is always waiting for the "found in a barn" gem that has been hidden for years and is a great bargain for the smart investor. My "gem" moment was when I discovered there was a fixture out there that made precise repairs to 7AC Champ fuselages possible. I jump...

7AC Champ Jig

I have been getting a number of email alerts that postings have been made to Facebook accounts that pertain to the Champ fuselage jig that I own in northeastern Ohio. I am elated that there is interest in using the jig to help damaged or rusted Champs to get back in the air. However, there seems to ...

Re: 7AC Fuselage Jig

There is a jig in Texas just outside of Houston in Pearland. At least there was. I visited the gentleman who bought it from a friend who was going through a divorce. It was the most basic of frames and only established a few major aligning points. It was left up to the mechanic to fill in the rest o...

7AC Fuselage Jig

I have a fuselage jig (the FAA says it should be called a reference fixture) for the 7AC Champ which was designed and built by a reputable Aeronca mechanic. It is available for free to anyone wanting to check the alignment of their fuselage prior to recovering. Any kind of repairs are possible since...

Re: Champ aileron spars

My job takes me all over the country and that gives me a wonderful opportunity to meet other Aeronca fans. It also gives me a chance to look at a lot of Aeronca parts. I specifically ask to see uncovered ailerons because I have been concerned for many years about the spar problem you have discovered...

Re: 15AC Left Side Door

I have been pondering the future of our brand of old aviation for quite a few years now. I have invested time and money to try and save Aeroncas that were falling by the wayside so that they would be available to the next generation of owners. I also see an opportunity to enhance an old time airfram...

15AC Left Side Door

I am trying to get an approval for a Sedan left side door that is hinged like the right side and swings forward. If you look at Matt's Sedan Gallery on http://www.n1331H.com, you can see that N1308H (15AC-338) and G-AREX (15AC-061) have the type door I am interested in. N1492H (15AC-416) has the sam...
