Re: McDowell

MikeB, As we HC discussed before, you need to have looked at your"system needs", figured out which exact pieces you need and actually gone out to some of those dusty hangars and done some horse trading to round everything up. Those "Dusty hangar" parts aren't likely to show up on Ebay. This was a re...

Engine Change-outs

I am thinking about different engine configurations for my Chief and would like to know what recommendations the members might have. It has an A-65 now and my reasons to change are probably about as common as could be: more speed, higher gross weight and staying within LSA requirements.

Re: compass location

Mike, I have a clean copy of the panel drawing for Chief's and it shows the compass location as you described. My chief has the compass mounted in the second position as you described and it doesn't seem to have any special sensitivities. I'll have to admit that I don't try to use it for any precisi...

Re: Shoulder harness

Jim, I'm not sure what you are looking at for metal contacts but I have looked at the Air Spruce line-up and didn't find what I thought I wanted. I have seen somewhere a four way buckling arrangement which had a single point disengagement facility. This is of interest to me because it would allow a ...

Re: Shoulder harness

Jim, I don't have an explicit answer to your question although I do know that Bill Pancake has developed a " restraining " system which presumably solves the Shoulder harness problem for Chiefs. I have seen it posted somewhere, perhaps on the fAA forum. I have not proceeded with a shoulder harness i...

Re: Fuel Survey

With the dramatic reduction in retail prices for ordinary automobile gasoline, is there any hope that this cost break will appear in 100 ll ? In northern Pa., we have seen a drop of more than $1/gal for regular unleaded Autogas over perhaps a year or so. If this would happen for 100ll, the price at ...

Re: Primer seals?

I haven't had it apart but my primer on my 11AC works just as you describe. It doesn't seem to have much "feel" of back pressure but can easily flood he engine if you get to enthusiastic about priming. Must have some sort of sealing - I'm not taking it apart though, I'm more interested in starts tha...

Re: Closure Panel

Mark,

I gave Mike some input on this and apparently it was in error. My canvas baggage compartment also covers that area but I found no original Aeronca info reflecting a Floor cover. Could you provide some drawing references which might have this detail ?

Re: Closure Panel

There's not one in my 11AC. And you are right. I've used lots of different magnet extenders to retrieve various metal parts from " down under". I'll look at my drawings holdings tomorrow to see if there ever was one in the original design.

Transponder Antennas

Things have been deathly quiet on the forum lately so I decided to see if this topic would stir up some discussion. It is "do you have a transponder antenna mounted on your Chief ? If so, is it mounted internally to the exterior ? And if so, where and how ? Further, is it powered from some engine dr...

Re: Are You a member of this Group

I have heard from one party on the fAA forum named Dale Jewett who reports extensive use of his McDowell with a report that I woks "Perfectly". His Chief is an 11 AC powered by an A-65. He also reported no maintenance difficulties.

Re: Prop bolt length

Sensenich provides very concise information about the installation of the W72-42CK propeller and along with it the exact hardware and torque values recommended for it. If, for some reason you did not receive this, it is a free cell phone call to get this information direct from them. You will need t...

Re: Need drawings

OK Jerry,

I looked for the drawings and have them. However, have been unable to attach them to this msg nor to a PM for you. If you wish to provide me an E-mail address to send them to, I'll try again through my normal Email program.
