Re: Aeronca 3286E over the falls and floods

Maybe once a winter, but it's usually in November. Software: VirtualDub, which is really easy and has filters to increase sharpness, saturation, brightness and contrast. It's freeware and does most everything you need. Also converts the AVI to MP4 so it's not so much on the HD. The original flight w...

Re: 2 flats with low tire pressure

Interesting that this thread has no problem with 12 to 15, the other thread is pretty much all 25 psi! I've been running 12 to 15 psi for nearly 20 years without an issue.

Re: 2 flats with low tire pressure

Tom, I got to thinking about the problem. Could your brakes be dragging or the bearings are set too tight? That would torque the stems.

Re: Streamline lift strut repair

Mark is referring to the rosette welds... Yes he was! I forgot the technical name for them for a second! At any rate, you end of removing material and starting new paths for the stress to go through the strut and it's no longer certified. The external splice is a bit like the spar splice... you have...

Re: Streamline lift strut repair

My first thought that is that you couldn't weld the ends to the strut since they are inside the strut and if you drilled holes for rivets and bolts, you would weaken it. The only way to really weld in an inside is to do buttons and again, you are dealing with drilled holes and nothing better than a ...

Re: ALTERNTIVE TO THE GoPro CAMERA

The Contour HD is no longer produced. Seattle is the base for company and the Seattle Times reported late last summer that the company folded. The interior "guts" are about $100 at HobbyKing, as a Chinese produced RC cam. I have the $39 dollar version that I use on the Chief, attached to an inspecti...

Re: Windshield Installation Issues

Was it trimmed correctly? Windshields don't come trimmed to fit and the problem you describe could be explained by the trimming process. Also, I see your in Chicago. Installing it in a heated environment is important. I'd contact LP and see if they have any ideas.

Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

Went up to the airport with a lot of snow pellets flying and checked the spark plug ends of the plug wires. A couple of them were grey and grainy and so I'm definitely going to resolder the ends. I don't think that micro-cracking can be as much an issue compared to a 12 volt relay system, with all t...

Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

We decided against it when the switch tested OK and the plugs were swapped. It seems to be all about the right side. But I'll unhook the R spark plugs next time and try to start it and then switch to R mag just to check.

Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

Nothing like having new parts in a mag that was giving you troubles. It starts strong after the annual and we taxi back to the hangar. I'm a happy camper. Now to fly. First flight was .8 tenths of an hour. Runup is perfect as always. Nice. Upon return, we have a slight issue again with the right mag...

Now the mag is ready to install. We replaced the carbon brush and the gaskets to the engine and the top of the case. Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

We also replaced the condenser, which is really easy. It is accessed through the slotted button on the bottom of rear end of the mag. The single wire pokes through the compartment and attaches to the lower bolt on the right side of the points. Sort of where the obvious place would be. New condenser,...

Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

Update: The annual went well. Here's the mag as we took it apart. I think these might be the only Bendix SF4- photos on the net! First of all, no swoosh when we opened the can. I think that old musty smell is a wonderful old smell, BTW. http://vimeo.com/80692042 Here is the new old stock coil (L) an...

I'm worrried about that too.. I'll share the results after the annual inspection on Tuesday! I'm not going to pop the can until I need it!
