Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

Ordered NOS coil from Fresno Airparts... this is what you get. Funny, a coil that is new but older than my plane! Flight experience since last post: Flying .2 around the pattern gives no right mag issues. Run up is perfect at all times. Flying for .7 does it in cooler weather, but not as severe as l...

Re: 11AC Spinner and Nose Bowl Ring

Charles, we all thank you for taking on the project and also sharing the art and skill it takes to make these works of metal art.

Amazing work and keeping the craft alive.

Best wishes.

Above, from Popular Science May, 1945. This is the first try of production that showed up in Flying magazine a few months later.

Re: Aeronca Chum Aircraft

That's why I asked about photos of the twin tail prototype. My sense of it is that when they received the license from Ercoupe, they first thought about doing it as per the license. They had some early 1945 artwork showing a twin tail Chum. By the time they started to actually cut metal, the design ...

Re: Aeronca Chum Aircraft

On the fAA email board, we have been discussing the Chum and this new photo that appeared on eBay... first photo I've seen of the Chum as it ended it's career. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1948-Press-Photo-a37-Aeronca-Airplane-OW-Loudenlager-/350888865742 Scroll to the bottom of the ended listing and you...

Re: Bill Pancake 11CC restoration

What caught my eye is the barrels with the Aeronca brochure in full color printed on them, with the twin tailed Chum! ... how in the world.....and the Chief is beautiful too!

Re: Wing X or Foreflight

Check out Seattle Avionics and the Voyager software. Moving map, charts, flight planning, pretty complete. Works with Win8. Based about a mile down the road from me in Woodinville, WA. They also do the AOPA iPhone app. Been using it for five years.

Re: Aeronca Chum Aircraft

I know that Aeronca had a drawing of the twin tail Chum, but I can't remember (at least this morning) seeing a photo of it in that configuration. I do have a photo of the small tailed prototype. Ah, one of those questions that we should have asked twenty years ago when the old Aeronca employees were...

Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

Yes, the next step is condenser and coil! We have a thermal trough over Seattle now and it's going to hit 90 degrees this afternoon. This morning I took the Chief up for a 42 min flight, about half of what I was doing. I know I 'm good for 20 min on the ground, so I wanted to heat things up a bit an...

Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

The plot thickens... I changed the plugs, keeping them on the same cylinder on the engine, top to bottom, bottom to top, L mag to R mag was the plug rotation. Then I started it up and ran it. Started out with 100 degrees and up to 170 on the oil temp, rpm at 1500 with a little run up to 2000 which i...

Re: Bendix Mag SF-4 issue - 400 rpm drop on right mag/sparkp

Update, I've flown it twice to check on it. Yes, after a 5 to 10 min. warm up the mag checks are perfect. Absolutely no issue at all. Easy to start, idle is great, no real issue at all. Upon landing after an hour flight, right mag is terrible. Rough, at full throttle it's only 1600 rpm, maybe creepi...

Re: Aeronca Chum Aircraft

Can you scan the article...looks like some new info, such as "five major assemblies"....knowing how Aeronca was keenly into production efficiency, it would be interesting
to read it. Plus any Chief on the cover gets my attention! Looks like a good contribution to Aeronca history...
