ALTERNTIVE TO THE GoPro CAMERA

Post by rkittine »

Hi,

Someone posted videos from a camera similar to the GoPro but possibly better with more accessories included and a lower price.

Can anyone remember, which camera? I think it was the gentlemen in North Dakota and Texas who posted the videos of his tailwheel solos over that beautiful land?

Thanks and Happy New Year - Bob

Bob it would be nice to see what camera it was. iam using a gopro and am very happy with it. the gopro has some limatations (mounting ) and its not very aerodynamic. when I was looking for a camera I looked at the N flight camera but its kind of spendy.but looks very usable. we well be watching to see what the rest of the guys are using. thank,s Bob

There's the Drift HD that some like.

And the Contour HD, (a stripped down N-Flight cam)

Those along with the GoPro seem to be the big three in aviation.

B & H Photo Has the Drift HD 170 (Normally $199.00) on sale for $119.00 with free shipping.

B & H shows the Contour as Discontinued, but that may just mean that they do not carry it any more.

The Contour HD is no longer produced. Seattle is the base for company and the Seattle Times reported late last summer that the company folded. The interior "guts" are about $100 at HobbyKing, as a Chinese produced RC cam. I have the $39 dollar version that I use on the Chief, attached to an inspection panel.

I bought this Midland Radio camera over a year ago. I use the bicycle handle bar mounting strap on the tubing by the windshield or I'll use the submersible case and use wire tie wraps to mount on the wing strut. Pretty simple operation and takes decent videos. I saw it advertised on a shooting show I watch as it is the action cam they use on guns or shooters. https://midlandusa.com/xtc-cameras/

Has anyone purchased one of the Drift HD 170 Bar Mounts? Handle Bar or Roll Bar? Wonder if the freedom of movement is enough to use one of these mounts on the lift strut or support struts of my 7CCM?

Thanks - Bob
