I purchased a Sedan project many years ago. I discovered significant corrosion in the wings. I rebuilt the wing spars first. This was the easy part. The hard part we’re the ribs… all had some degree of corrosion. I was able to salvage a handful of ribs in the right wing. They required a big effort ( 4 to 6 hours each) to remove the corrosion and pitting. I was faced with reconstructing the ones that couldn’t be salvaged. I was thrilled to find out Burl (Burl’s Aircraft) had made the investment to build new ones. I purchased replacement ribs for the right wing earlier this year and just purchased all new ribs for the left wing last week. The cost for the left wing ribs was $2,500. Well worth the $$ compared to the level of effort to build them myself!
My next step is to build jigs to reassemble the wings. If anyone has experience here, I sure would appreciate hearing from you.
